“Working on the set of ‘Lost Angel’ was a real privilege,” said Rachel Galvin, who not only had the chance to be a student named Joan in the film, but also took on the role as production assistant. “The cast and crew showed the utmost professionalism. In fact, it was the most serious sets I have worked on since Los Angeles.”

Perhaps the professionalism on set stemmed from those involved in the process, including writer/ director/ lead actress Keri Lurtz, whose last film “Unconditional” was shown at Cannes Film Festival. Lurtz is accomplished in her own right in all aspects of the business. Joining this talent was a whole crew of top notch workerbees. Galvin had the chance to work in many different aspects as a production assistant, including everything from dressing the set and reading lines with waiting actors to tracking down extras, doing behind the scenes footage and still photography. Her main assignment seemed to be helping the grips, which involved moving lights, cables, sandbags, cameras, etc. She also placed props and overall made sure that everything was running smoothly under the direction of Assistant Director, Theresa Frankel, who also was 5th unit director.

“It was laborious to be sure,” she said, “lifting all that equipment gave me a workout. But I had a blast. It was interesting because I was holding the camcorder of (3rd and 4th unit) director, Jeff Yarlett, and my camera at all times so that I could capture footage and I was hauling gear at the same time!”

Actor Stelio Savante (“Starship Troopers”) came in from Los Angeles to join the cast. “It was wonderful to watch the dynamic between his character and Keri’s, who played Samantha. It was electric. They really played with the roles making it fresh every time.”

The film was originally released in 2009, but required some reshoots and that is when Savante and several other actors, including Galvin, were brought into the mix.

“Lost Angel” will be shown at the Delray Beach Film Festival on March 28 at 12 p.m. at the Crest Theatre, 51 N. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach.

Rachel in TV pilot “Short takes on Life”

Rachel joined the gang at First Edge Studios in Wellington and filmed a skit for their new TV pilot, a SNL-type skit comedy show, “Short Takes on Life. Playing an Undercover Cop who gets the shaft in the skit “What Makes a Cop Pop,” her character’s development took her to new heights.

“This is the most over-the-top I have ever played,” she said, adding, “It was a lot of fun really letting loose with this character and the other actors were great to work with.”

“Lucky Streak & the Crime Fighters” set to premier

IMG_3587A South Florida superhero movie has world premiere!
In today’s world, everyone could use a hero and in this feature film, the world is introduced to several new ones. “Lucky Streak and the Crime Fighters” will have its world premiere at the Florida SuperCon in Miami on June 18 at 8 p.m.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PR Log (Press Release) – Mar 02, 2010 – South Florida’s “Lucky Streak’s” newest superheroes ready to come to life
From the Sunshine state comes a new cast of super heroes. Local director Kurt Donath created the feature film “Lucky Streak and the Crime Fighters.” With names like Amazing Grace, Bandit, Shocker and Lucky Streak, the new heroes battle villains like Dr. Dragon and the huge hammer-wielding muscle-man Goliath to save the planet. On Friday June 18, at 8:00pm the cast and crew of the new independent feature Lucky Streak and the Crimefighters will be at FSC (Florida SuperCon) for the films premiere!

This film has been a long time in the making. It was filmed with South Florida actors, many of whom have gone to other parts since, such as New York. They also brought in Kasey Poteet, a popular model from Los Angeles to add to the sizzle factor. The plot runs a bit like a soap opera, delving into the lives of each of the super heroes, much like the successful “The Watchmen” did recently, but it remains clean-cut enough for the kiddies. The director feels that kids will love the film, but comic book fans everywhere will appreciate it for its sharp writing, undercurrent of wit, homage’s to classic comic book stories, and other unique elements.
